The Lions Road Rathdowney

One for the Railway enthusiasts: the road was Built as a Lions Club project to allow travellers to visit the forests, and criss-crosses Running Creek and Gradys Creek on the Queensland and New South Wales border at the famous tick gate. Along with the amazing rainforests, the highlight is the spectacular railway engineering feat of the Border Loop and a treat for rail enthusiasts. To enable trains to cross the Border Ranges, engineers had to find a means of gaining altitude at a reasonable gradient. The answer was this ingenious spiral loop. see the map here

Natural Arch - Springbrook National Park

The Natural Bridge is a naturally formed rock arch over Cave Creek (the headwaters of the Nerang River). It was formed from a waterfall which undercut a cave beneath the waterfall and dug a pothole on top, until the two joined and the creek flowed through the cave, leaving an arch across the front.

The cave is home to a colony of glow worms. Swimming is no longer permitted in order to protect the glow worm habitat. This applies to the area bounded by the walking track / circuit. Downstream access to the creek is allowed. Access to this section of the park is from the Nerang-Murwillumbah Road.
